Ambrotype Series

My deep love of early photographic processes led me to reconsider and rework the ambrotypes (glass photographs, slightly underexposed and placed against a dark background or coated with a dry emulsion) that I own.

I have rephotographed mostly damaged ambrotypes and printed them as large scale paper prints, emphasizing the patina of the aging process – the scratches, whorls, pockmarks, cracks that transform this careful, methodical, beautiful process to a mysterious, layered investigation of the subjects themselves.
